Day trips
Briksdal glacier – a small part of the Jostedalsbreen glacier
Briksdalsbreen is the most famous glacier in the area, and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. The near-by mountain lodge has a café, restaurant, souvenir shop and activity park. You can walk to the glacier in about 40 minutes along a good path/road, or you can hire a ‘troll car’ to reach the glacier. You can participate in a ‘glacier safari’ on the glacial lake, paddling in a dinghy across the green glacial waters.

Outer Nordfjord – experience the wild coast of Western Norway
We recommend driving along the Panorama Road to Nordfjordeid, and from there to the small coastal village of Måløy. Don’t miss the ‘Kannesteinen’ rock, a few minutes outside the village. There are a number of other places in the area that are well worth a visit, including Selje with Selje Monastery, Hoddevik, Kråkenes Lighthouse and the West Cape, just to mention a few.
Geirangerfjord – Geiranger – Dalsnibba – fjords, mountains and waterfalls
Drive to Hellesylt and catch the ferry up the Geirangerfjord to Geiranger. From there, the drive up to Dalsnibba to view Geiranger and the fjord from above is a ‘must’. Continue to Grotli, where you can make a detour to Stryn Summer Ski Centre before returning to Stryn.
Trollstigen – spectacular mountain pass
National Tourist Route. Drive through some of Western Norway’s dramatic landscape with high mountain peaks and deep fjords and valleys. Enjoy the magnificent view from the Trollstigen plateau. The trip can be combined with the trip to Geiranger, from where you continue to Valldal and across the Trollstigen mountain pass. As an alternative, you can return via Åndalsnes and Vestnes, and take the ferry from Liabygda to Stranda to get back to Stryn/Loen.

Ålesund – the most beautiful town of Northwest Norway
A visit to the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund is highly recommended. Wonderful architecture and atmosphere. Follow the path to Mount Aksla to get a bird’s eye view of the whole town. Atlanterhavsparken with Ålesund Aquarium and Sunnmøre Museum are well-worth a visit. Recommended route: Stryn – Hellesylt – Stranda – Sykkylven, then ferry to Magerholm and a 20-minute drive or so to Ålesund.
